Dalton split its season-ending tri-match with a loss to Sprayberry, 25-12, 25-23 and a win over Cass, 25-17, 25-20, on Tuesday at home. Emily Harbin led the Lady Catamounts (12-20, 3-4 in Area 7-4A) with eight kills, Kate Houston added 10 kills and Kathryn Sigmon chipped in with 26 assists. Dalton will enter the Area 7-4A tournament as a No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 Woodland at 5:30 p.m.

I think overall we had a good year did some things to improve on fundamentals that will carry over to next year   -Elizabeth Crane

Dalton High's cross country teams followed up on a sweep of Tuesday's meet at Edwards Park with a strong showing Saturday at the Powerade Invitational at Moccasin Bend in Chattanooga. The Lady Catamounts finished third and the Cats seventh in 14-team fields. "We ran well today," Dalton coach Karen Galyon said.

Appalachian State's Brittany Caudle has been honored as the women's Southern Conference Runner of the Week for her performance during the week of September 2-8, the league office announced today. The freshman art major from Middletown, Md., ran in her first career cross country race Saturday as Appalachian State hosted the Covered Bridge Open. Caudle finished with a time of 18:13. Her time is the third-fasted in a 5K for a freshman and the 17 th best time ever at Appalachian State.

The North Murray High football team suffered its first-ever loss as a program Saturday night in Chatsworth against Dade County, 50-28. But Dade County had a clear advantage over the junior varsity Mountaineers (1-1). "We assumed we'd be playing their JV team," North Murray coach Larry Cornelius said.

Even indoors, area sports teams weren't completely free from disruptions caused by the thunderstorms that passed through Northwest Georgia on Thursday evening. While Northwest Whitfield's varsity volleyball team was able to wait out a slight delay on its way to a non-region victory at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Dalton's home opener against Southeast was spoiled by a power outage that stopped the match in the second game after a light caught fire in the Cats' Den. The Lady Catamounts won the first game 2

Dalton and Northwest Whitfield's volleyball team's hit the court for the first time in the 2009 season at the Sequoyah Classic in Cherokee, and both coaches liked what they saw from their teams on Saturday. The Lady Bruins went 2-2 in their matches, despite being without one of their best players, 6-foot-4-inch outside hitter Christy Robinson, who suffered a shoulder injury last weekend in a scrimmage at Dalton High.
